Are you looking for a special someone in your life? Meet Elgin, an approximately 3 year old domestic shorthair white and orange tabby. Elgin is a handsome, enthusiastic and incredibly loving feline with special needs. He loves to chat to you as you pass by, is easy to make purr and is incredibly outgoing. He is the perfect, loyal companion and would love a large family with children. Elgin has spent his life living and thriving outdoors, in and around a farm setting.
Unfortunately, he was stepped on by a horse and lost part of his leg during this time and it was never addressed. The bone was jagged, painful and bleeding when he arrived at UCHS. Thankfully, he is now part of the Trooper's fund to get his leg amputated and comfortable.
This is not the end of Elgin's trouble. Elgin is now searching for a forever home who is willing to help with his recovery as he heals after surgery and where he can be the only cat because he has also been diagnosed with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).
FIV weakens the cat's immune system, making it susceptible to infections, dental gingivitis and illnesses. FIV is non-transferrable to people or animals other than cats and is contracted usually when non-neutered males get in to territorial fights that result in deep bite wounds. Cats with FIV usually have a slightly shorter lifespan, but can live fairly normal lives as long as they are kept indoors and on a good diet. Please chat with your veterinarian if you are interested in Elgin to find out what potentially could be in his future.
We know that Elgin will be a hard man to place, but we know there is a home out there for this affectionate feline. UCHS will be looking for a foster-to-adopt situation where UCHS will take care of his medical bills during his recovery and when he has healed to be adopted out to his foster family.
