Volunteer

We appreciate your interest in volunteering with the Upper Credit Humane Society. Our volunteers play a vital role in the lives of the animals that pass through our doors and they are very valued members of our organization. We simply could not function without the help of the fantastic volunteers who generously donate their time and skills.

As a volunteer with the UCHS, you are helping to provide the extra love and support our animals need to prepare for their forever homes. At the end of the day, you’ll know that your time had an impact on the animals, and we’re sure they’ll have an impact on you, too. If you are ready to put up your hand to help, we’ve got the volunteer options to suit you.

We require volunteers at the thrift store to be at least 14 years of age. To work with the animals at the shelter, you must be at least 16, and you must be at least 18 to work with the dogs.

Our volunteers are involved in all areas of the Upper Credit Humane Society, including:

  • Animal care
  • Organizing and attending special events
  • Fundraising
  • Administrative and office help
  • Yard work and gardening, and light maintenance duties
  • Plus a variety of roles at our Thrift Shop

When volunteer positions become available, they are posted on this page. If you are interested in applying for a volunteer position that has been posted, please submit an application form, as outlined on the posting. We appreciate everyone who considers volunteering with the Upper Credit Humane Society, however, some opportunities are limited and we will contact applicants who are best suited for the position.

**We will send an email response regarding your application. If you haven’t received a response, please check your spam folder.

Board Officers and Board members required

All Board members and executives must have the following qualities.

  • Commitment to and energy to support the UCHS and its values.
  • An understanding of UCHS’s mission and goals.
  • Strong leadership and collaborative skills in supporting the shelter and to be able to offer alternative proposals as needed in the interest of best serving the organization.
  • Good communication skills and an understanding of group process.
  • Objectivity so that dialog is productive, and contributions are encouraged from all sides.
  • Decisiveness in order to tackle and resolve difficult issues

Members at large do not hold a portfolio and they help out in the other areas, such as events, fundraising, volunteering etc. They vote but don’t have to do anything specifically except help out. If they should choose at some point to become a holder of a portfolio, and there is an open one, they can be voted in at the AGM.
