Our Story

Upper Credit Humane Society (UCHS) has been dedicated to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership since 1991.

Originally founded as the Erin and Hillsburgh and District Humane Society, the organization began with a small group of compassionate community members led by Robert and Anne Burr. What started as meetings in a church basement soon grew into a volunteer network providing foster care, rescuing animals, and supporting local wildlife.

In 1995, the organization became a registered charity under the name Upper Credit Humane Society. As the need for animal care grew, so did the Society. In 2003, UCHS opened its animal shelter and education centre in Erin, followed by the relocation of its Thrift Shop to Georgetown in 2006.

Today, UCHS is an independent, community based organization dedicated to providing compassionate care, finding loving homes for animals in need, and promoting responsible pet ownership.

With more than 5,000 animals adopted throughout our history, our mission continues thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, donors, and community supporters.

Together, we're making a difference, one animal at a time.
