Overview
The Grant Writer, as an active member of the board of Directors, will be available to volunteer their time for a minimum of 15 hours a month on related responsibilities and activities noted below. As part of the Board, the Grant Writer will be required to attend monthly Board meetings, the Annual General Meeting and subsequent ad-hoc meetings as deemed required.
Additionally, the Grant Writer will be required to pay the annual membership fee as long as s/he is part of the Board of Directors. The minimum term to be on the board will be two years (a maximum of six years).
Role Description
In addition to the above, the Grant Writer’s primary responsibilities will be finding funding opportunities for Upper Credit Humane Society and writing polished proposals to secure grant money for Shelter initiatives. Essential duties include researching deadlines, drafting grant requests/proposals and submitting reports for approval. Responsibilities include the following:
- Researching and identifying potential grant opportunities that align with the Shelter’s goals and objectives.
- Developing and drafting grant proposals that effectively communicate UCHS’s goals, objectives, and strategies to potential funders (non-government, private donors, non-government, etc.)
- Collaborating with the board of Directors to gather relevant information and data needed for grant applications.
- Submitting timely and accurate grant proposals to potential funders.
- Following up with potential funders to supply additional supportive material if requested.
- Maintaining accurate records of grant submissions and outcomes; providing reports as required.
- Staying current on grant funding opportunities and requirements.
- Performing any other related duties as assigned or agreed upon by the Board of Directors.
- Always representing UCHS in a positive manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post secondary education in English, communications, creative writing or a related area and/or related work experience with a minimum of Two years’ experience in grant writing.
- Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process.
- Ability to understand the funding requirements of UCHS and long-term objectives.
- Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources.
- Multitasking, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Working knowledge of computers and an aptitude for software and technology.
- Passionate about animal welfare.
