Other Ways to Give

Sponsor a Cage or Kennel

Whether you are looking to recognize a celebratory milestone (retirements, birthdays, anniversaries) or just find a gift for that hard-to-find-for person in your life, sponsoring a dog kennel, cat condo or small animal enclosure is an excellent choice. This is one of the very best ways you can help transition an animal from a difficult time to a loving home.

Our kennels and cages provide a safe and caring environment – often the first safe space the animal has ever known. When you sponsor a cage or kennel you receive a heartfelt letter of appreciation acknowledging the sponsorship (perfect for gift giving) and a certificate of sponsorship. A plaque is placed on a kennel for an entire year recognizing your contribution to the health, comfort and safety of the animal housed within. Of course, all of this is followed by a tax receipt.  Finally, you are left with the knowledge that you have provided for an animal in distress in a very meaningful, practical and heartfelt way until they are able to find their way home.

Shop Our Wish List

Many of our supporters want to help the animals by donating items that we use at the shelter everyday. Here are some items we currently need:

Animal Care Supplies:

  • Wet and dry food (cat, kitten, puppy, and dog)
  • Cat grass
  • Small/medium cat scratchers (carpet or cardboard)
  • Catnip
  • Arm & Hammer Double Duty Cat Litter Deodorizer
  • Hay (small animals)
  • Fleece blankets or throws
  • Extra-Large Kongs

Cleaning Supplies:

  • Liquid laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets
  • Black garbage bags
  • Nature’s Miracle Advanced Stain & Odor Remover (red bottle)
  • Dish soap
  • Pine Sol Multi Use Cleaner
  • Paper towels

Gift cards to pet supply stores, gas stations, and large retail stores (Canadian Tire, Staples, Walmart, etc.) are also always appreciated. We also accept direct delivery donations to the Shelter for purchases made from our Amazon Wishlist.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we are currently well stocked with toys and towels and have removed them from our wish list for now. We will add these items back onto our wish list when our supplies need replenishing.

Recycling Program

Bottles and Cans

Please drop off your empty bottles and cans at our Shelter or the Thrift Shop. We accept all LCBO empties including bottles, cans, and wine tetra packaging, but NOT sparkling water bottles.

Fundraise for the Animals

Want to get involved and help the animals in your community? How about hosting your own fundraiser with proceeds going to help the animals?

Here are some creative ways you can help the shelter:

  • Birthday - Having a birthday party and want to help the animals? In lieu of presents, why not ask your guests to bring a donation for the shelter. A cash donation or an item from our wish list would make a great present.
  • Wedding - Getting married and already have everything you need? In lieu of gifts, why not ask your guests to donate to the shelter on your behalf?
  • School - Get students, teachers involved in hosting a fundraiser and raise awareness about responsible pet ownership at your school. Have an animal themed bake sale, host an animal themed workshop/seminar, or organize a car wash.
  • Office - Round up your fellow co-workers and fundraise for the shelter. Charge a fee for casual dress down day, host a lunch/barbecue, sell ice cream treats with proceeds going to the animals at UCHS, or organize a 50/50 draw.
  • Create your own fundraising event - No fundraising event is too small. Why not have all your friends over for a spaghetti dinner and charge $5 a plate? What about a lemonade stand or a car wash for the animals? Our Fundraising Committee can help you brainstorm or organize events for the shelter. Send us an email at fundraising@uppercredit.com and let us help.

Planned Giving: A Lasting Legacy

Are you concerned about the welfare of animals? Do you agree that animals should always be protected from cruelty, abuse and neglect? Then you can help us continue to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves now and beyond your lifetime.

How? By making a planned gift to the Upper Credit Humane Society. A planned gift maximizes the benefits of a charitable gift for you through substantial tax and estate planning benefits. At the same time, it allows you to make a long lasting gift to the UCHS.

There are several ways you can make a planned gift:

  • Will - This is a gift made through the will. You can make a gift of cash or property with the Upper Credit Humane Society as the beneficiary.
  • Gift of life insurance - You can make us the owner and beneficiary of a new or an existing life insurance policy. The premiums you pay qualify for a tax credit.
  • Charitable gift annuities - A gift annuity returns a competitive rate of income to you, most if not all of which is tax-free and a residual which can go to the Upper Credit Humane Society.
  • Charitable remainder trust - You may wish to set up a trust and name the Upper Credit Humane Society as a beneficiary at the time the trust is to be distributed. You receive the income from the trust and we receive whatever remains in the trust after you pass away. One of the tax advantages to this planned gift includes a donation receipt at the time the gift is made.
  • Major gift-in-kind - This can be a gift of property, e.g. real estate, works of art, jewellery, etc. We will issue a tax receipt after independent appraisals.
  • Donate securities - You can deduct the full value of the stock as a charitable donation and you don’t have to pay capital gains tax.
