Animal Care Attendant / Kennel Assistant; Part-Time (15–20 hours per week)


We are currently seeking a compassionate, reliable Part-Time Animal Care Attendant / Kennel Assistant to join our team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the health, safety, and overall well-being of the animals in our care while supporting daily shelter operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care and enrichment, including feeding, exercising, grooming, and socializing animals.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of kennels, cages, play areas, laundry facilities, and common areas following strict disinfection protocols.
  • Administer supervised medications and treatments as directed.
  • Monitor animal health and behaviour; report concerns promptly to management.
  • Maintain accurate animal records and complete required checklists.
  • Assist with adoption visits and appointments.
  • Participate in animal transfers as required.
  • Provide professional and friendly customer service to adopters, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Perform physical tasks including lifting to 18 kg (40 lbs.) and safely handling animals up to 34 kg (75 lbs.).
  • Following all safety policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of animals and staff.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School diploma (or equivalent).
  • Valid G driver’s license.
  • Availability to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong team mindset.
  • Previous experience in animal care and/or customer service preferred.
  • A certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care (or currently enrolled) is considered an asset.
  • Previous clerical experience is considered an asset.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $17.60 per hour
